While I usually use this column to semi complain about my progeny, this week, I want to focus on the topic of heroes. And specifically, heroes for young girls. This past week, we bore witness to two gal-led significant pop culture moments. Not only did these women play marvelously, but perhaps even more importantly, they led off the field, representing themselves courageously, confidently, and clearly. A post shared by U. Unfortunately, my four-year-old daughter is not a soccer fan.

Girl power: Why it's important for young girls to have heroes - CNA
The decade was full of contradictions for young women. I began the s doing something very specific at a disco on a highly anticipated end of primary school camp in Cornwall. What it was, though, was an early indication that attitudes towards gender and sexuality were changing. The 90s, and the third-wave feminism the decade has come to be remembered for, was a contradictory experience at the time. It was, on the one hand, all about girl power and sex positivity. On the other, it was the ultimate pornification of the female body in black hip-hop culture, in which I was — by the middle of the decade — heavily immersed.

And… watch out Southwest Iowa. You have NO idea what is coming for you. Last week I traveled for work Wednesday thru Friday. Wednesday morning before I left town I was able to get a quick lifting session in at the gym, but Thursday and Friday. We can thank some questionable food on Wednesday night that led to some unfortunate stomach pains and minimal sleep the rest of the week.
